The URBANopt project has successfully leveraged OpenStudio/EnergyPlus to model buildings and electrical systems at an urban scale; however, lacked the ability district thermal energy until recently. This paper will present modeling infrastructure that was developed specifically for analysis of heating cooling systems, how it is integrated into existing framework. also discusses development new models added Modelica Buildings Library various system components including loads, transfer stations (ETS), distribution networks, central plants. describes different building loads can be modeled time series, TEASER reduced-order models, or Spawn EnergyPlus models. District Energy Systems allows user switch between configurations.
